Ashley Andreou is originally from Vancouver, Canada, and is currently a medical student at Georgetown University School of Medicine and in the Health ... moreJustice Scholar academic tract. Before coming to Georgetown, she earned her M.P.H. in Health Policy from Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) and was a Global Health Justice Scholar at Yale Law School, where her research focused on the role of gender in FDA approvals as well as the effects of policing, hypervigilance, and heightened cortisol levels on Black American men's health outcomes. Before YSPH, she worked with the HIV, Health, and Development Group at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), predominantly working alongside governments in Southeast Asia and the Caribbean to attain the 90-90-90 UNAIDS targets through policies in their longitudinal national health plans. Also at UNDP, she worked on policy reports that investigated the linkages between gender, sexuality, and the right to health. After medical school, she is planning on pursuing psychiatry. Drawing on her work in gender and sexuality, she is interested in specializing in reproductive psychiatry as well as providing gender-affirming mental health care. She hopes to leverage the symbiosis of psychiatry, advocacy, and policy to improve the lives of patients and contribute to system-wide reform.
